welcome to my internet home. this blog used to be cool, with insights about mental health, social policy, pop culture and the like. now, it's a chaotic collection of my mis-spelled, scribbled-down notes on motherhood (who has time to proof read?). it's over-ran with goldfish cracker crumbles, slobery wet kisses, and un-edited pictures. and i would have it no other way. feel free to laugh and cry along side me while I balance a practice (mental heath) and motherhood, and their interconectedness

17 months

Lyla Lou, I know I say this a lot but this month has been particularly fun. I just love this stage! You are so playful and happy and a little confidant. Your little personality is so well natured and I simply can't get enough of being your play buddy. I can't wait for this summer when I can watch you embrace all the fun things to do in the summer. I feel grateful for every day when I get to wake up to your smiling face and know that I get to be apart of your life every day. I know things will be changing soon, it's such a worry, but it forces me to appreciate every moment and day with you. Thanks for being so lovable. I hope I live worthy of being your mom.

-You say oh oh for uh oh. Its so cute

-In songs where the words call for "knocking on the door" you insist on finding the nearest wall to knock

-You love sitting on little chairs. I think you see any small chair as your mini throne :)

-You now say the words when you sign them. Like "more" and "water"

-You and I have this secret language. IDK how I know what you're talking about but dad will always say "how did you know that's what she wanted?"

-You understand questions we ask you and respond "yes" to thinks like "want to read a book" or "wanna play in your bedroom" and you also go running when I ask you that

-You are a stinker. You will pinch me and then say "ouch!".

-You blow on your food now even when its not warm. If you don't like something you say its hot.

-You do "pound it"

-You still LOVE your tub so much that you're often trying to take your clothes off during the day so that you can bath. We have to be careful not to say the word around you unless it really is time to bath or you get ticked!

-You want to be comforted when you get hurt. No matter how small the ouchie you come running for a little loving.

-You wash your own hair (or try to) in the bath

-You know where your head is

-You bring diapers to us when you're poopy. I probably start trying to potty train you but I'm nervous to!

-New words: more, eyes, hot, off, Lyla, bye, no, out, bath

-You love flavor in your food!! You love the fire chicken at panda. I can't even tolerate it but you love it! You also like licking salsa off chips. It's killer

-You point to my tummy and say "bebe". I don't think you really know what that means but its adorable. Sometimes you think dad has a bebe in his tummy too :)

-You give the best kisses and when they're sloppy you even wipe them off for us. So sweet

-You got ring worm from the pool I think! EW

-You say "Og" for dog and get really excited. I think you love animals

-You can blow bubbles in the water now. Every now and again you suck the water in but it's still impressive.

-You watch shows now to the end.

-You make the cutest sounds for cow, monkey and lion. They all kinda sound the same

-You get the concept of coloring now and really enjoy it! I credit this to being in primary with me

-You try and sing. It's adorable.

-You got 4 molars all at once! I think it's brutal watching them break through. You've handled it really well.

-We've started time out for hitting and such. It hurts your feelings and you usually just sit in the corner and cry. It kills me

-You do the Hopkins Hop (from Signing time) its so cute

-You are hard core on the playground! You have way more confidence than I think you should! You run across the bridge, swing, slide, you name it!

-You are such a little helper and will throw things away from mom. We have to check the trash before taking it out because there's always a few non-trash items in there.

-You like to close drawers and doors. You're pretty diligent about it!

-You are finally forward facing in the car. you love it!

-You bring dad the dirty diapers. I love it!

-You love love love being outside. On nice days we spend almost the whole day out there.

-You recognize yourself in pictures and say Lyla!

-You say cracker so freaking cute. Its like crrrrackerr!

I love you sweetie babe!!

30+ weeks

Here is the one and only prego picture I have. Taken around 32 weeks. Anyway, here's some other updates about this baby

BOY OR GIRL??

That is the question...we are still trying to answer. My office does an ultrasound at 30 weeks. When we went in the tech said she wanted to double check gender because she looked back at our images and felt the genital shot wasn't very clear. Hmmm. She looked and looked and couldn't even get close to the genitals because she's in the breech position and the anterior placenta doesn't help. We left with "hope it comes out a girl". YIKES! Did I mention the PINK room is all set up? And the PINK clothes are all washed and hanging in the closet...NON refundable?

HOLY HAIR?

The first thing the tech said at this ultrasound was "wow, look at all that hair!". You could see it flowing around. Obviously, we NEVER heard that with Lyla, lol. I guess that wives tale about heartburn and lots of hair really is true. Cue the worry that this baby is going to have more hair than Lyla.

HOLY CHUBBY?

The tech also said this babe is about 1.5 lbs bigger than average babies at this gestation. I have also been measuring a little on the big side (but within a normal range). My doctor later clarified that she is actually at the normal weight..in the 60th percentile. That was relief.

Either way, this baby seems different from Lyla in about every possible way. Lets hope they share the same goodies though, because I'm a planner. and I didn't plan for blue.
We'd love HIM just the same though I guess. So here's to just over 6 weeks and counting....

I've said it before, but I love Valentines day and embrace the cheesiness, commercialness and oozyness. What's wrong with a day designated to showing your love to the people in your life? I kinda did a Santa Cause type thing with Lyla but told her Cupid visited last night (who the crap knows why). She walked out to find all these goodies and giant bear sitting in the recliner. She shrieked and ran for the bear and hugged it. Cute huh? Then her 6th sense kicked in and she sniffed out the chocolate. Seriously, how could she know this thing wrapped in tin foil held a giant chocolate heart? She enjoyed a breakfast of chocolate covered animal crackers and a giant chocolate heart. She also got this really cute picture book that sings the love bug song. We celebrated with a trip to the pool. Dad got a headset for gaming (lame I know) I got the above GORGEOUS flowers that are still blooming and smelling beautiful AND a pregnancy message. Love you guys :)
