welcome to my internet home. this blog used to be cool, with insights about mental health, social policy, pop culture and the like. now, it's a chaotic collection of my mis-spelled, scribbled-down notes on motherhood (who has time to proof read?). it's over-ran with goldfish cracker crumbles, slobery wet kisses, and un-edited pictures. and i would have it no other way. feel free to laugh and cry along side me while I balance a practice (mental heath) and motherhood, and their interconectedness

Memorial Day

We spent the weekend at a little condo in Brain Head and decorated the graves Sunday. I hope we make this a tradition as it was fun to just chill together, swim, watch movies and play games. Some pics...

MOOOOOOOOOOO

So the no dairy thing is really grating on me. I feel like a detoxing crack addict in the milk aisle at the store and crave the weirdest things. While part of me feels guilty for even complaining, as poor Lyla girl could be SIX before she even outgrows this milk protein allergy, the other part of me just wants to say sorry by stuffing a whole brick of cheese in my mouth.
Okay, I'm being dramatic, it really hasn't been that bad, but with the end insight (plan to ween at one year, so 3 months away), I can't help but plan my first meal as a normal person.
I think it'll go like this....
Breakfast:
yogurt!! toast with butter! Ham and CHEESE croissant, cottage cheese, bagel w/ cream cheese!
Lunch:
Salad with cheese AND ranch! Oh how I am sick of salad w/ vinaigrette's.
maybe a grilled cheese sandwich (don't even really like them)
Dinner:
appetizer: fried cheese sticks or spinach artichoke dip
main dish: pizza, burrito smothered in cheese, and something Italian like Alfredo, lasagna or chicken parmigiana
side: baked potato WITH butter and sour cream or mashed potatoes (oh how I've missed them), or maybe even cheese bread of some sort
dessert: anything with milk chocolate in it, cheesecake, ice cream, all covered in whipped cream
I'll take bipass surgery on side too. Seriously though, I need some damn dairy.
MOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Gross, but true

When I was getting my gel toes for mother's day, I begged my toe person (what do I call her?) for some tips for battling the cracked heel I am plagued with all summer. Her suggestion? Yup. Ped Egg.

Ever seen the infomercial? Gross.
But it seriously works.
That+bag balm (or veterinarian jelly in the pet section)+socks
Gross, but true.

Your feet will thank you

8 months

Dear Lyla
You just lived your 8th month of life! Unbelievable! It's amazing to think how much you've changed and evolved in 8 short months. You are simply amazing. The theme of this month is Independence. You are such your own little person. You can play for long periods of time. You get what you want and go where you want. You are so not in to cuddling anymore. Some days I beg you, and squeeze you, but you resist! It reminds me appreciate every moment with you. To fight this thing called life and its distractions. I can't seem to give you enough kisses in a day. To tell you I love you enough. I simply live for tiny hugs when you wrap your little arms around me. Snuggles in bed when you I feel your tiny feel against my back. Watching your hair spring up around your neck when you sweat. Your little death grip on my clothing. Moments when you give out and drop your head on my shoulder. My ability to make your world all better. Girl talk. And living life right along side of you. Thanks for being what is beautiful. Thanks for teaching me how great life can be. Love you forever.
  • You go for my cup the minute you see it and open your mouth like baby bird
  • You are good at drinking from cups
  • You are brave and lunge for anything you want
  • You got your toes painted hot pink for the first time!
  • You are a scardey cat! You cry in terror when I turn on the vacuum, blow dryer or mixer
  • You LOVE swimming
  • You make mamma and dadda sounds now! Dadda when he gets home from work and momma when you want something (thanks). Your first word was definitely Dadda. (May 23rd). Traitor
  • You're just now getting to where you're not afraid of peek abo
  • You sit in your big girl car seat now! You like it much better
  • You've expanded your pallet to include real fruit (strawberries, apples, cantaloupe), real potatoes and more exotic baby food (mangoes, etc)
  • You wore sunscreen for the first time
  • You tried Sprite and did NOT like it (coke purist)
  • You are sleeping like a champ! Usually wake one, maybe two times a night and are taking real naps! Most days you take a 2-3 hour nap. There are the exceptions, but this is an amazing break for me to get things done. I think you're finally comfortable with the reflux issues and are able to sleep better
  • You are TOUGH to feed in public. You whip the blanket off you the minute I put it on to cover myself. I can't blame you for wanting to be a social eater.
  • You sleep on your side always
  • You're very curious of textures. You love to feel different things
  • You love to dance to Ka$ha. The song about brushing teeth with a bottle of Jack (mother of the year here).
  • You tried, and LOVED your first snow cone! Tiger's Blood is your fav
  • When I sing you to sleep, you join me in a duet. You truly sing along with me. You do this in primary too. It's so stinking cute!
  • Sometimes rocking you to sleep can be like rocking a monkey to sleep. You wiggle!!
  • You love when we dance around the room, twirling
  • You bounce when I sing paddy cake. You still don't love when I use your hands to do it
  • You HATE reading! ugh. It pains me so. You cry every time I grab a book. I think because I won't let you eat them.
  • You have sucked on 2 rib bones. And loved them. Apparently grandma Cris thinks you are a dog.
  • You bounce to music
  • You love this farm toy I bought you. You love pulling the animals off the part that goes round
  • You cry when I leave the room
  • You can get on all fours, and sit back up, but just can't make the crawl movements
  • You had your first trip to CALIFORNIA
  • You got your first tooth June 4th! Teething so far hasn't been too bad. You had a few nights where you didn't sleep too well (like before), and fussed throughout the day, but now you're good. It's SO cute. It's the middle bottom tooth
  • You got your first passport!
  • You hit on my boobs when you want em and want to play. You and dad have similar beliefs about the girls.
  • You have certainly grasped object permanence. I can't hid anything from you. You won't quit until you find and get to anything you want.
  • You fake cough. It's hilarious
  • You are so anti-cuddle now. It makes me so sad. I force it somethings but you always wiggle away
  • You scream in excitement
  • You get stuck under your table toy and laugh
